Time - a consideration that is important when a player misplays the ball. Sometimes a player:
- has enough time to play the ball and is guilty for playing it poorly - deliberate play
- has time only for an instinctive reaction and plays it poorly - deflection
Timeframe develops when analyzing many situations:
- 0,3 seconds or less is a deflection
- 0,6 seconds and more is a deliberate play (when the ball is expected)
- 0,3-0,6 is a grey area where it depends upon the referee´s interpretation, the dynamics of the situation and the quality of play
- a co Qualitynsideration that is misunderstood.
The guidelines say that the quality doesn´t matter when a player makes a deliberate play. But it is not emphasized that sometimes the guidelines might suggest a deflection, but as the ball is played with good quality then it cannot be a deflection.
